Angel Hsu became a researcher to make a difference.
Hsu (pronounced like shoe) says she works “at the intersection of data science and policy.” There, she aggregates and analyzes large and unconventional datasets to create policy tools that inform environmental governance at all levels.
The Yale University Assistant Professor at the School of Forestry & Environmental Studies and Singapore’s Yale-NUS College directs an interdisciplinary lab called Data-Driven Yale (DDY).
At DDY, statisticians, scientists, programmers, writers and graphic designers collaborate on research to address pressing environmental issues.
Hsu, once an avid stamp collector is now a big fan of college bracket, and her bracket got busted along with everyone else’s in 2016’s NCAA March Madness.
She earned her PhD in Forestry and Environmental Studies at Yale University, an M Phil in Environmental Policy from the University of Cambridge, and a BS in Biology and a BA in Political Science at Wake Forest University.
