BBC reports that, “Scientists in California are testing sponges made with the key ingredient of baking soda as a way of capturing carbon emissions.”

It could be a cheaper and environmentally-friendly way “to avoid dangerous levels of climate change caused by CO2 emissions.”

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), Harvard University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign collaborated on the project.
