Get Your Buzz On: Honey Bees Like Flowers Not Junk Food
Discovery.com reports that North Carolina State University researchers collected 24 beekeeper-controlled colonies and 15 wild colonies to find out what bees ate.
The scientists checked the level of carbon-13 isotopes in the bees to see how much human food was consumed.
The researchers’ conclusion was that “bees are relying on flowers in cities and are not turning to human foods to supplement their diet.”
Remind us of that at our next picnic.
The Journal of Urban Ecology published the research findings.
