Kai Baraka works full-time job, and has time to spread the STEM gospel.
In 2014, Baraka became a developer of the International Summer of Code at Rails & Girls. The nonprofit, created in Finland, in 2010, was created “to open up technology and make it more approachable for girls and women.”
Baraka’s Open Source camp projects are to teach, or refine, skills in Bundler. It is a tool used daily by Rubyist, a magazine focused on the programming language Ruby, Rails: a web app framework written in Ruby, and Merb, a controller framework in Ruby.
This isn’t her first technology plunge. She has a BA in Business Administration, Management and Technology from Saint Leo University in Tampa/St.Petersburg, FL, blogs about tech trends, hackathons, and women in technology for the AT&T Developer Program.
Baraka, a member of Women Who Code, has also been a mentor for the National Society of Black Engineers, and a Delivery Lead for Code for America’s Atlanta Brigade.
