Laura Garcia believes civil engineering is an empowering discipline.
As a geological engineer, Garcia works with the soil and other components of the earth to help determine whether a particular site is a good for a given project.
The Professional Engineer’s expertise includes subsurface investigation, soil and rock classification, and design and construction of shallow and deep foundations.
In 2012 Garcia was hired by Whitman, Requardt & Associates’ Baltimore office. The firm provides engineering, architectural, environmental and construction management services.
To Garcia, engineering also plays a role that can transform environments and lives. That was catalyst for her, as an undergraduate,to join the nonprofit Engineers Without Borders. The organization sends students to 45 countries to “build a better world through engineering projects that empower communities to meet their basic human needs.”
She received both her MS in Geotechnical Engineering and her BS in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Maryland at College Park.
