Engineers use cigarette butts to create planet-friendly better bricks.
At the global school, RMIT University, engineers say that repurposing used cigarette butts will help the environment. They report that bricks made with only 1 per cent cigarette butt content, from the trillions of butts thrown away annually, will also slash brick production costs.
The butt bricks “were also lighter with better insulation properties – meaning reduced household heating and cooling costs. “
The research has been published in the Journal of Waste Management (Elsevier). RMT, which branches in multiple countries, is based in Melbourne and focuses on technology and design . Video: Check it out.
