China Has the Most Powerful Computer
This morning, BBC reported that the People’s Republic of China’s 93 petaflop Sunway TaihuLight has been installed at the National Supercomputing Center in Wuxi.
How fast is the Sunway? It can perform about 93 trillion calculations per second.
Top500.org, which tracks “Statistics on high-performance computers are of major interest to manufacturers, users, and potential users.” released the news at the International Supercomputing Conference (ISC) being held in Frankfurt, Germany.
The ISC says that “TaihuLight is currently up and running at the National Supercomputing Center in the city of Wuxi, a manufacturing and technology hub, a two-hour drive west of Shanghai. The system will be used for various research and engineering work, in areas such as climate, weather & earth systems modeling, life science research, advanced manufacturing, and data analytics.”
