The ¡Latino!LA news site reported on two corporate Achievers honored recently by the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility (HACR). The mission of HACR “is to advance the inclusion of Hispanics in Corporate America at a level commensurate with our economic contributions.”

The engineers are Alexandra Figueroa, a Senior Software Developer, at the General Motors Innovation Center, in Chandler, AZ, and Tony Argote, Jr., a Program Engineer Manager in the Autonomous Technology division of General Motors (GM).

GM hired Figueroa in 2014. Figueroa told ¡Latino!LA that she founded the Hispanic Initiative Team chapter in her Chandler office “to be the face of GM in the Hispanic community” and helps “lead the recruiting efforts for GM to identify up-and-coming Latino talent.”

She has a MS in Computer Science from DePaul University and a BS in Business Administration, Computer Science from the Universidad de Puerto Rico.

Argote knows the value of Co-op engineering positions. He had four of them at GM before 2009, when the automaker hired him as a Design Release Engineer. His current post is his seventh step up the corporate ladder at GM

He is the co-leader of GM’s STEM Council, which hosts professional engineering conferences, such as, the Hispanics in STEM promoter, Great Minds in STEM.

Argote earned his MS in Engineering, Energy Systems Engineering from the University of Michigan, and his BS in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Tech.
